White children enslaved in a mine in 19th century England. The two on
the left are virtually naked. Children of both sexes worked in this
manner.

Two years ago, Prime Minister Paul Keating of Australia refused to
show "proper respect" to Britain's Queen Elizabeth II during her state
visit. In response, Terry Dicks, a Conservative member of the British
Parliament said, "It's a country of ex-convicts, so we should not be
surprised by the rudeness of their prime minister."

A slur such as this would be considered unthinkable if it were uttered
against any other class or race of people except the descendants of
White slavery. Dicks' remark is not only offensive, it is ignorant and
false. Most of Australia's "convicts" were shipped into servitude for
such "crimes" as stealing seven yards of lace, cutting trees on an
aristocrat's estate or poaching sheep to feed a starving family.

The arrogant disregard for the holocaust visited upon the poor and
working class Whites of Britain by the aristocracy continues in our
time because the history of that epoch has been almost completely
extirpated from our collective memory.

When White servitude is acknowledged as having existed in America, it
is almost always termed as temporary "indentured servitude" or part of
the convict trade, which, after the Revolution of 1776, centered on
Australia instead of America. The "convicts" transported to America
under the 1723 Waltham Act, perhaps numbered 100,000.

The indentured servants who served a tidy little period of 4 to 7
years polishing the master's silver and china and then taking their
place in colonial high society, were a minuscule fraction of the great
unsung hundreds of thousands of White slaves who were worked to death
in this country from the early l7th century onward.

Up to one-half of all the arrivals in the American colonies were
Whites slaves and they were America's first slaves. These Whites were
slaves for life, long before Blacks ever were. This slavery was even
hereditary. White children born to White slaves were enslaved too.

Whites were auctioned on the block with children sold and separated
from their parents and wives sold and separated from their husbands.
Free Black property owners strutted the streets of northern and
southern American cities while White slaves were worked to death in
the sugar mills of Barbados and Jamaica and the plantations of
Virginia.

The Establishment has created the misnomer of "indentured servitude"
to explain away and minimize the fact of White slavery. But bound
Whites in early America called themselves slaves. Nine-tenths of the
White slavery in America was conducted without indentures of any kind
but according to the so-called "custom of the country," as it was
known, which was lifetime slavery administered by the White slave
merchants themselves.

In George Sandys laws for Virginia, Whites were enslaved "forever."
The service of Whites bound to Berkeley's Hundred was deemed
"perpetual." These accounts have been policed out of the much touted
"standard reference works" such as Abbott Emerson Smith's laughable
whitewash, Colonists in Bondage.

I challenge any researcher to study 17th century colonial America,
sifting the documents, the jargon and the statutes on both sides of
the Atlantic and one will discover that White slavery was a far more
extensive operation than Black enslavement. It is when we come to the
18th century that one begins to encounter more "servitude" on the
basis of a contract of indenture. But even in that period there was
kidnapping of Anglo-Saxons into slavery as well as convict slavery.

In 1855, Frederic Law Olmsted, the landscape architect who designed
New York's Central Park, was in Alabama on a pleasure trip and saw
bales of cotton being thrown from a considerable height into a cargo
ship's hold. The men tossing the bales somewhat recklessly into the
hold were Negroes, the men in the hold were Irish.

Olmsted inquired about this to a shipworker. "Oh," said the worker,
"the niggers are worth too much to be risked here; if the Paddies are
knocked overboard or get their backs broke, nobody loses anything."

Before British slavers traveled to Africa's western coast to buy Black
slaves from African chieftains, they sold their own White working
class kindred ("the surplus poor" as they were known) from the streets
and towns of England, into slavery. Tens of thousands of these White
slaves were kidnapped children. In fact the very origin of the word
kidnapped is kid-nabbed, the stealing of White children for
enslavement.

According to the English Dictionary of the Underworld, under the
heading kidnapper is the following definition: "A stealer of human
beings, esp. of children; originally for exportation to the
plantations of North America."

The center of the trade in child-slaves was in the port cities of
Britain and Scotland:

"Press gangs in the hire of local merchants roamed the streets,
seizing 'by force such boys as seemed proper subjects for the slave
trade.' Children were driven in flocks through the town and confined
for shipment in barns...So flagrant was the practice that people in
the countryside about Aberdeen avoided bringing children into the city
for fear they might be stolen; and so widespread was the collusion of
merchants, shippers, suppliers and even magistrates that the man who
exposed it was forced to recant and run out of town." (Van der Zee,
Bound Over, p. 210).

White slaves transported to the colonies suffered a staggering loss of
life in the 17th and 18th century. During the voyage to America it was
customary to keep the White slaves below deck for the entire nine to
twelve week journey. A White slave would be confined to a hole not
more than sixteen feet long, chained with 50 other men to a board,
with padlocked collars around their necks. The weeks of confinement
below deck in the ship's stifling hold often resulted in outbreaks of
contagious disease which would sweep through the "cargo" of White
"freight" chained in the bowels of the ship.

Ships carrying White slaves to America often lost half their slaves to
death. According to historian Sharon V. Salinger, "Scattered data
reveal that the mortality for [White] servants at certain times
equaled that for [Black] slaves in the 'middle passage,' and during
other periods actually exceeded the death rate for [Black] slaves."
Salinger reports a death rate of ten to twenty percent over the entire
18th century for Black slaves on board ships enroute to America
compared with a death rate of 25% for White slaves enroute to America.

Foster R. Dulles writing in Labor in America: A History, states that
whether convicts, children 'spirited' from the countryside or
political prisoners, White slaves "experienced discomforts and
sufferings on their voyage across the Atlantic that paralleled the
cruel hardships undergone by negro slaves on the notorious Middle
Passage."

Dulles says the Whites were "indiscriminately herded aboard the 'white
guineamen,' often as many as 300 passengers on little vessels of not
more than 200 tons burden--overcrowded, unsanitary...The mortality
rate was sometimes as high as 50% and young children seldom survived
the horrors of a voyage which might last anywhere from seven to twelve
weeks."

Independent investigator A.B. Ellis in the Argosy writes concerning
the transport of White slaves, "The human cargo, many of whom were
still tormented by unhealed wounds, could not all lie down at once
without lying on each other. They were never suffered to go on deck.
The hatchway was constantly watched by sentinels armed with hangers
and blunder busses. In the dungeons below all was darkness, stench,
lamentation, disease and death."

Marcus Jernegan describes the greed of the shipmasters which led to
horrendous loss of life for White slaves transported to America:

"The voyage over often repeated the horrors of the famous 'middle
passage' of slavery fame. An average cargo was three hundred, but the
shipmaster, for greater profit, would sometimes crowd as many as six
hundred into a small vessel...The mortality under such circumstances
was tremendous, sometimes more than half...Mittelberger (an
eyewitness) says he saw thirty-two children thrown into the ocean
during one voyage."

"The mercantile firms, as importers of (White) servants, were not too
careful about their treatment, as the more important purpose of the
transaction was to get ships over to South Carolina which could carry
local produce back to Europe. Consequently the Irish--as well as
others--suffered greatly...

"It was almost as if the British merchants had redirected their
vessels from the African coast to the Irish coast, with the white
servants coming over in much the same fashion as the African
slaves." (Warren B. Smith, White Servitude in Colonial South
Carolina).

A study of the middle passage of White slaves was included in a
Parliamentary Petition of 1659. It reported that White slaves were
locked below deck for two weeks while the slaveship was still in port.
Once under way, they were "all the way locked up under decks...amongst
horses." They were chained from their legs to their necks.

Those academics who insist that slavery is an exclusively Black racial
condition forget or deliberately omit the fact that the word slave
originally was a reference to Whites of East European origin -
"Slavs."

Moreover, in the 18th century in Britain and America, the Industrial
Revolution spawned the factory system whose first laborers were
miserably oppressed White children as young as six years of age. They
were locked in the factories for sixteen hours a day and mangled by
the primitive machinery. Hands and arms were regularly ripped to
pieces. Little girls often had their hair caught in the machinery and
were scalped from their foreheads to the back of their necks.

White Children wounded and crippled in the factories were turned out
without compensation of any kind and left to die of their injuries.
Children late to work or who fell asleep were beaten with iron bars.
Lest we imagine these horrors were limited to only the early years of
the Industrial Revolution, eight and ten year old White children
throughout America were hard at work in miserable factories and mines
as late as 1920.

Because of the rank prostitution, stupidity and cowardice of America's
teachers and educational system, White youth are taught that Black
slaves, Mexican peons and Chinese coolies built this country while the
vast majority of the Whites lorded it over them with a lash in one
hand and a mint julep in the other.

The documentary record tells a very different story, however. When
White Congressman David Wilmot authored the Wilmot Proviso to keep
Black slaves out of the American West he did so, he said, to preserve
that vast expanse of territory for "the sons of toil, my own race and
color."

This is precisely what most White people in America were, "sons of
toil," performing backbreaking labor such as few of us today can
envision. They had no paternalistic welfare system; no Freedman's
Bureau to coo sweet platitudes to them; no army of bleeding hearts to
worry over their hardships. These Whites were the expendable frontline
soldiers in the expansion of the American frontier. They won the
country, felled the trees, cleared and planted the land.

The wealthy, educated White elite in America are the sick heirs of
what Charles Dickens in Bleak House termed "telescopic philanthropy"--
the concern for the condition of distant peoples while the plight of
kindred in one's own backyard are ignored.

Today much of what we see on "Turner Television" and Pat Robertson's
misnamed "Family Channel," are TV films depicting Blacks in chains,
Blacks being whipped, Blacks oppressed. Nowhere can we find a
cinematic chronicle of the Whites who were beaten and killed in White
slavery. Four-fifths of the White slaves sent to Britain's sugar
colonies in the West Indies did not survive their first year.

Soldiers in the American Revolution and sailors impressed into the
American navy received upwards of two hundred whiplashes for minor
infractions. But no TV show lifts the shirt of these White yeoman to
reveal the scars on their backs.

The Establishment would rather weep over the poor persecuted Negroes,
but leave the White working class "rednecks" and "crackers" (both of
these terms of derision were first applied to White slaves), to live
next door to the Blacks.

Little has changed since the early 1800s when the men of property and
station of the English Parliament outlawed Black slavery throughout
the Empire. While this Parliament was in session to enact this law,
ragged five year old White orphan boys, beaten, starved and whipped,
were being forced up the chimneys of the English parliament, to clean
them. Sometimes the chimney masonry collapsed on these boys. Other
times they suffocated to death inside their narrow smoke channels.

Long after Blacks were free throughout the British Empire, the British
House of Lords refused to abolish chimney-sweeping by White children
under the age of ten. The Lords contended that to do so would
interfere with "property rights." The lives of the White children were
not worth a farthing and were considered no subject for humanitarian
concern.

The chronicle of White slavery in America comprises the dustiest shelf
in the darkest corner of suppressed American history. Should the truth
about that epoch ever emerge into the public consciousness of
Americans, the whole basis for the swindle of "Affirmative action,"
"minority set-asides" and proposed "Reparations to African-Americans"
will be swept away. The fact is, the White working people of this
country owe no one. They are themselves the descendants, as
Congressman Wilmot so aptly said, of "the sons of toil."

There will only be racial peace when knowledge of radical historical
truths are widespread and both sides negotiate from positions of
strength and not from fantasies of White working class guilt and the
uniqueness of Black suffering.

Let it be said, in many cases Blacks in slavery had it better than
poor Whites in the antebellum South. This is why there was such strong
resistance to the Confederacy in the poverty-stricken areas of the
mountain south, such as Winston County in Alabama and the Beech
mountains of North Carolina. Those poor Whites could not imagine why
any White laborer would want to die for the slave-owning plutocracy
that more often than not, gave better care and attention to their
Black servants than they did to the free white labor they scorned as
"trash."

To this day, the White ruling class denigrates the White poor and
patronizes Blacks.

If this seems admirable from the pathological viewpoint of Marxism or
cosmopolitan liberalism, the Black and Third World "beneficiaries" of
White ruling class "esteem" ought to consider what sort of "friends"
they actually have.

The Bible declares that the man who does not take care of his own
family is "worse than an infidel." This also applies to one's racial
kindred. The man who neglects his own children to care for yours has
true love for neither.

White, self-hating liberals and greed-head conservatives who claim to
care for the "civil rights" of Black and Third World people, discard
the working class of their own people on the garbage heap of history.
When they are finished with their own they shall surely turn on
others.

Those who care for their own kind first are not practicing "hate" but
kindness, which is the very root of the word.

New post on Bare Naked Islam

Paedophile Pophet Mohammed returns to the Metropolitan Museum of Art

Looks like the Metropolitan is no longer a 'non-prophet' institution. Let the crazed Muslim riots begin. NY POST After at least an eight-year absence, images of Mohammed will return to the Metropolitan Museum of Art as the renovated Islamic galleries reopen in November. The controversial depictions have not been seen in years, and there was some doubt [...]

The Federal Reserve Plans To Identify "Key Bloggers" And Monitor Billions Of Conversations About The Fed On Facebook, Twitter, Forums And Blogs
To: undisclosed-recipients

Will their identification and monitoring change the facts?  No.
Will their identification and monitoring intimidate We The People?  Hopefully, NO.....

The Federal Reserve Plans To Identify "Key Bloggers" And Monitor Billions Of Conversations About The Fed On Facebook, Twitter, Forums And Blogs

The Federal Reserve wants to know what you are saying about it.  In fact, the Federal Reserve has announced plans to identify "key bloggers" and to monitor "billions of conversations" about the Fed on Facebook, Twitter, forums and blogs.  This is yet another sign that the alternative media is having a dramatic impact.

» If you like this article, please subscribe to our daily newsletter

Big_Brother_WatchingAs first reported on Zero Hedge, the Federal Reserve Bank of New York has issued a "Request for Proposal" to suppliers who may be interested in participating in the development of a "Sentiment Analysis And Social Media Monitoring Solution".

In other words, the Federal Reserve wants to develop a highly sophisticated system that will gather everything that you and I say about the Federal Reserve on the Internet and that will analyze what our feelings about the Fed are.  Obviously, any "positive" feelings about the Fed would not be a problem.  What they really want to do is to gather information on everyone that views the Federal Reserve negatively.  It is unclear how they plan to use this information once they have it, but considering how many alternative media sources have been shut down lately, this is obviously a very troubling sign.

You can read this "Request for Proposal" right here.  Posted below are some of the key quotes from the document (in bold) with some of my own commentary in between the quotes....

"The intent is to establish a fair and equitable partnership with a market leader who will who gather data from various social media outlets and news sources and provide applicable reporting to FRBNY. This Request for Proposal ("RFP") was created in an effort to support FRBNY's Social Media Listening Platforms initiative."

A system like this is not cheap.  Apparently the Federal Reserve Bank of New York believes that gathering all of this information is very important.  In recent years, criticism of the Federal Reserve has become very intense, and most of this criticism has been coming from the Internet.  It has gotten to the point where the Federal Reserve Bank of New York has decided that it had better listen to what is being said and find out who is saying it.

"Social media listening platforms are solutions that gather data from various social media outlets and news sources.  They monitor billions of conversations and generate text analytics based on predefined criteria.  They can also determine the sentiment of a speaker or writer with respect to some topic or document."

The Federal Reserve Bank of New York intends to listen in on "billions of conversations" and to actually determine the "sentiment" of those that are participating in those conversations.

Of course it will be those conversations that are "negative" about the Federal Reserve that will be setting off the alarm bells.

"Identify and reach out to key bloggers and influencers"

Uh oh.  So they plan to "identify" key bloggers and influencers?

What exactly do they plan to do once they "identify" them?

"The solution must be able to gather data from the primary social media platforms –Facebook, Twitter, Blogs, Forums and YouTube."

Hopefully you understand this already, but nothing posted on the Internet is ever anonymous.  Everything on the Internet is gathered by a vast host of organizations and is used for a wide variety of purposes.  Data mining has become a billion dollar industry, and it is only going to keep growing.

You may think that you are "anonymous" when you criticize organizations like the Fed, but the truth is that if you are loud enough they will see it and they will make a record of it.

"The solution must provide real-time monitoring of relevant conversations.  It should provide sentiment analysis (positive, negative or neutral) around key conversational topics."

Why do they need to perform "sentiment analysis"?

If someone is identified as being overly "negative" about the Fed, what will they do about it?

"The solution should provide an alerting mechanism that automatically sends out reports or notifications based a predefined trigger."

This sounds very much like the kind of "keyword" intelligence gathering systems that are currently in use by major governments around the globe.

Very, very creepy stuff.

Are you disturbed yet?

For those of us that write about the Federal Reserve a lot, this is very sobering news.

I wonder what the Fed will think about the following articles that I have posted on my site....

What is their "Social Media Monitoring Solution" going to think about those articles?

Unfortunately, this is all part of a very disturbing trend.

Recently, a very creepy website known as "Attack Watch" was launched to gather information on those saying "negative" things about Barack Obama.

Suddenly, everyone seems obsessed with what you and I are saying.

This just shows how the power of the alternative media is growing.

Not only that, but it seems as though the government also wants to gather as much information on all of us as possible.

For example, a new rule is being proposed by the Department of Health and Human Services that would force health insurance companies to submit detailed health care information about all of their customers to the federal government.

Every single day our privacy is being stripped away a little bit more.

But now it is often not just enough for them to know what we are doing and saying.  Instead, the "authorities" are increasingly stepping in to silence important voices.

One of the most recent examples of this was when Activistpost was taken down by Google.  We are still awaiting word on why this was done.

Sadly, the silencing of Activistpost is far from an isolated incident.

Hordes of YouTube accounts have been shut down for their political viewpoints.

Quite a few very prominent alternative media websites have been censored or attacked because of what they stand for.

So why is this happening?  Well, it turns out that the power of the alternative media is growing.  According to a new survey by the Pew Research Center for The People & The Press, 43 percent of Americans say that they get their news on national and international issues from the Internet.  Back in 1999, that figure was sitting at just 6 percent.

The American people are sick and tired of getting "canned news", and they are increasingly turning to the Internet in a search for the truth.

As I have written about previously, the mainstream media in this country is overwhelmingly dominated by just 6 very powerful corporations....

Today, ownership of the news media has been concentrated in the hands of just six incredibly powerful media corporations.  These corporate behemoths control most of what we watch, hear and read every single day.  They own television networks, cable channels, movie studios, newspapers, magazines, publishing houses, music labels and even many of our favorite websites. Sadly, most Americans don't even stop to think about who is feeding them the endless hours of news and entertainment that they constantly ingest.  Most Americans don't really seem to care about who owns the media.  But they should.  The truth is that each of us is deeply influenced by the messages that are constantly being pounded into our heads by the mainstream media.  The average American watches 153 hours of television a month.  In fact, most Americans begin to feel physically uncomfortable if they go too long without watching or listening to something.  Sadly, most Americans have become absolutely addicted to news and entertainment and the ownership of all that news and entertainment that we crave is being concentrated in fewer and fewer hands each year.

The "news" that we get from various mainstream sources seems to always be so similar.  It is as if nearly all mainstream news organizations are reading from the same script.  The American people know that they are not getting the whole truth and they have been increasingly looking to alternative sources.

The monopoly over the news that the mainstream media once possessed has been broken.  The alternative media is now creating some huge problems for organizations that were once very closely protected by the mainstream media.

The American people are starting to wake up and they are starting to get very upset about a lot of the corruption that has been going on in our society.

But it turns out that the "authorities" don't like it too much when Americans try to actually exercise free speech in America today.  For example, you can see recent video of female protesters in New York City being penned in by police and then brutally maced right here.

Are you sickened by that?

You should be.

What the "authorities" want is for us to shut up, sit in our homes and act as if nothing wrong is happening.

Meanwhile, they seem determined to watch us more closely than ever.

So are you going to be afraid to talk negatively about the Federal Reserve now that you know that they are going to be watching what you say on the Internet?

Please feel free to leave a comment with your thoughts below....

When Rick Perry drops out: Ron Paul could be second place, Republicans enter the Wild West
By Brent Budowsky - 09/26/11 09:55 AM ET

I wrote in August that Rick Perry will self- destruct within 30 days. His prospects for the presidency were as phony as the fantasy of a two-person race was false. Perry is a phony conservative who is not conservative. He is a pay-for-play politician who gobbled up Obama stimulus like a hound dog eating a bone, and created oceans of new government jobs in Texas while his big donors mysteriously received big government contracts. The Texas deficit ballooned and the Texas jobless rate doubled on Rick Perry's watch.

I will not speculate about the reasons for Rick Perry's strange, weird and incoherent debate performance. Major new negative stories about Perry will soon emerge in the media. Trust me. Perry will drop out long before the year ends. If he dropped out today Ron Paul could well be in second place. Will pundits say it is a two-man race between Romney and Paul?

This is the most unpredicable campaign in many years. One insider recently asserted that if the election were held today Obama would certainly lose. Nonsense. Obama would cream Perry. I laughed when media pundits lauded the buffoon Donald Trump for a month as the great Republican hope.

This notion that the GOP contest was a two-man race was a mirage and pure pundit malpractice from the beginning.

Another mirage is Chris Christie, a not-very- popular freshman governor with zero national experience who could easily be defeated for reelection by dynamic Democratic Mayor Cory Booker.

Sarah Palin could jump in, but if she did, her motive would be to prevent any other Republican from winning. Obama would clean Palin's clock. So what next?

Mitt Romney is the Tom Dewey of 2012. He is qualified, presidential -- and distrusted by virtually everyone. Like Dewey he looks like the plastic man on the wedding cake. He could be elected. Remember, Dewey almost won in 1948, but if Obama plays Truman I suspect he beats Mitt, but I could be wrong.

When Perry drops out, Ron Paul could be in second place. It could be a magical moment for Ron Paul, and perhaps Herman Cain, for a clean shot at second place. Let's see what they do with it. Both Paul and Cain deserve far more respect from the major media. This is not a Soviet campaign where Pravda-like pundits treat certain candidates as though they do not exist.

If Jon Huntsman moves above the 10 percent he recently polled in New Hampshire, he becomes very serious. If not, he drops out by December and endorses Mitt.

The Republican battle is the exact opposite of a two-person race and always has been. It is wide open like the Wild West. The big question is who emerges as the leading conservative opponent to Romney, and whether Romney can make the leap to be trusted as a credible president.

Forget Chris Christie. The man to watch is Mitch Daniels, governor of Indiana. Daniels is trusted by all factions of the party, is highly qualified, and in my view has the best chance of defeating Obama. I have said it before. Remember where you heard it.

Rick Perry is toast. The two-man race is dead. The Republicans have entered the Wild West without Perry as a big-time player.

The Gullible, Naive Right Wing
Tom Woods

Well, at least the phony neoconservative variety.  In his book Washington Rules, Andrew Bacevich, with me a contributing editor of The American Conservative, puts his finger on Americans' (though especially neocons') eagerness to embrace fantasy and propaganda when it comes to foreign affairs:

As a boy growing up in the Midwest during the early years of the Cold War, I developed a clear understanding of what differentiated Americans from their communist adversaries.  Simply put, we were pragmatists and they were ideologues. On our side flexibility and common sense prevailed; whatever worked, we were for it. In contrast, the people on the other side were rigid and dogmatic; bombast and posturing mattered more than results. The newsreels of the time told the tale: Communist leaders barked ridiculous demands; the docile masses chanted prescribed slogans. It was impossible to imagine Americans tolerating such nonsense.
However belatedly, learning has overturned these youthful impressions. "Whatever works" no longer seems to guide everyday American behavior, if it ever did.  Americans view it as their birthright that reality should satisfy desire. Forget e pluribus unum. "Whatever I want" has become the operative national motto.  In the meantime, when it comes to politics, Americans do put up with nonsense.  Week in and week out, members of a jaded governing class, purporting to speak for "the American people," mouth tired cliches that would have caused members of the Soviet Politburo to blush with embarrassment….
The world -- we are incessantly told -- is becoming ever smaller, more complex, and more dangerous. Therefore, it becomes necessary for the nation to intensify the efforts undertaken to "keep America safe," while also, of course, advancing the cause of world peace. Achieving these aims -- it is said -- requires the United States to funnel ever greater sums of money to the Pentagon to develop new means of projecting power, and to hold itself in readiness for new expeditions deemed essential to pacify (or liberate) some dark and troubled quarter of the globe….
At a deeper level [than merely monetary costs], the costs of adhering to the Washington consensus defy measurement: families shattered by loss; veterans bearing the physical or psychological scars of combat, the perpetuation of ponderous bureaucracies subsisting in a climate of secrecy, dissembling, and outright deception; the distortion of national priorities as the military-industrial complex siphons off scarce resources; environmental devastation produced as a by-product of war and the preparation for war; the evisceration of civic culture that results when a small praetorian guard shoulders the burden of waging perpetual war, while the great majority of citizens purport to revere its members, even as they ignore or profit from their service.

There's much more, but that's about all I can quote.

If Only the Republican Had Won in 2008
by Jim Cox

Republican pundits such as Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, and Neal Boortz properly lament what a disaster Democrat Barack Obama has been as president. Oh, if only the voters had selected the Republican nominee in November 2008 just think of where we'd be today!

So what would John McCain have done had he been elected and sworn in January 2009? We know both Obama and McCain supported the bailouts to Wall Street in the Fall of 2008. In fact, McCain supported the bailout to the point of actually suspending his campaign to emphasize its importance! Nothing different there.

Obama gave us the stimulus of 2009 -- American Recovery and Reinvestment Act -- as an effort to revive the weakened economy. McCain's position? Well, he did actually vote Nay, knowing the bill would pass the Senate safely. Given McCain's history on such things it is almost certain that had he been president he, like Obama, would have sought a stimulus bill rather than letting the market sort things out.

Obama reneged on his campaign promises of ending the Iraq war maintaining troops there till this day. And what would John McCain's policy be if he were president today? The same but with the suggestion that the troops could well be there for 100 years. Nothing different there.

Both men called for a surge in troop strength on top of the then 90,000 American forces in Afghanistan in 2009. Fundamentally similar policies yet again.

Our pundit friends can't complain that Obama has increased income taxes as he gave in entirely to extending the Bush income tax cuts in 2010. McCain advocated ending these tax cuts in 2001 and 2003 and only the threat of a possible election defeat in his Senate campaign in 2010 got him to change his mind here. If he'd been elected president in 2008 he'd have had no electoral threat to persuade him to abandon his established position. The most optimistic conclusion is that there is no negative Obama difference or positive McCain difference here!

Maybe there's a difference between Obama and McCain regarding the money-creating, buddy-funding Federal Reserve? Nope. Both Obama and McCain have stood silent and passive as the Fed created trillions in new dollars for the favored few well-connected types. Neither man has called into question any of this or supported the effort to audit the Fed.

What about the issue of federalism? Surely, there's a difference with Obama advocating more and more federal power at the expense of the states and the people. McCain is the US Senator who has shown his lack of respect for the Bill of Rights having co-authored the freedom of speech trampling McCain-Feingold campaign finance bill and is one who is sold on trampling on the 10th amendment. Two peas in a pod is a better description of these two guys.

Well surely this past spring there was a clear difference in what John McCain wanted and what Barack Obama wanted regarding Libya, right? No, again. Obama committed US troops to combat action to oust Muammar Qadhafi with the vocal approval of John McCain. That provision about Congress having the authority to declare war in the dusty old Constitution thing was of no concern for either man. And they both had previously publicly embraced Qadhafi only months prior. The word "ditto" fits nicely here. If the proper range of opinion is represented by Obama on the left and McCain on the right, then I guess we must call them both "Great Americans"; only "myrmidons" allowed here!

In fact, Obama's policies have been such a continuation of those of George Bush that they look eerily like those of a George Bush third term!

With so many similarities and no differences on anything fundamental what can we say about the current field of Republicans seeking the presidential nomination? It is this:  The Republican Party has a choice to make. Either the Republican Party nominates one of the establishment candidates to continue the Bush-Obama policies enacting, in effect, a Bush fourth term or the Republicans must make a basic change in what they are about and return to their stated principles of limited government, free markets, and defense of this country.

Ron Paul is the only Republican who will challenge these bipartisan policies. It is either more of the same or Paul. There is no other choice.

Federal Policy on "Illegals" Arbitrary, Bewildering
"The government said it plans to reconsider the status of 300,000 illegal residents under the new guidelines, including many who already received deportation orders. But sometimes in Washington, a solution isn't necessarily a fix. Even with the guidelines in place, there is no way for illegal immigrants to apply for review, and the government has yet to announce which cases will be reevaluated, when, and by whom. The new guidelines are not a law or a bill or even a policy; they are a suggestion that will be interpreted day by day, case by case." ( Washington Post)

They are human beings with alienable natural rights!

The Goal Is Freedom
Natural, Not National, Rights
Sheldon Richman
Posted September 26, 2011

Somewhere in my reading about immigration, someone made the deceptively simple point that it's not immigrationwe should be talking about but migration. That's another way of saying the focus has been on us, when it should be on the people coming to the United States. The discussion has proceeded as if they have no rights in the matter but we do. We will let them come here if and only if we have a use for them. And we doesn't refer to a group of free individuals, but rather to a collective Borg-like entity with rights superior to any held by its constituents. The collectivist, and therefore statist, nature of the discussion indicates how far we've drifted from our individualist and voluntarist moorings.

You can see what I mean in most of the commentary about what is prejudicially called the immigration problem. By that I don't mean such real dangers as migrant-exploitation and migrant-smuggling, which are products not of thelack of border control but precisely the opposite. No one would choose to cross the border at a cost of thousands of dollars and squeezed into a gas tank if he could walk or take a bus.

No, the problem that we presumably must solve is that too many of the wrong kind of people are coming here. Neoconservative columnist Charles Krauthammer writes, for instance, Do liberals [he means Democrats] believe that the number, social class, education level, background and country of origin of immigrants the kinds of decisions every democratic country makes for itself -- should be taken out of the hands of the American citizenry and left to the immigrants themselves and, in particular, to those most willing to break the very immigration regulations the American people have decided upon democratically?

I'm sure Krauthammer doesn't think of himself as a collectivist, but could his question be more saturated with collectivism? What does he mean when he says a democratic country should decide what kind of people may move to the United States? An abstraction, such as a country, doesn't make decisions. It requires prodigious evasion to take the self-serving, log-rolling, rent-seeking, voter-pandering, incumbent-protecting activities of a gaggle of legislators, who don't even read the bills they vote on, for the decision-making of The Country. Considering the long and winding road from an election of a congressman to the passage of an immigration bill, it's laughable to claim that the decision over who may enter the country lies in the hands of the American citizenry. Textbook political cliches can't change the facts.

Krauthammer goes on: There are tens of millions of people who want to leave their homes and come to America. We essentially have an NFL draft in which the United States has the first, oh, million or so draft picks. Rather than exercising those picks, i.e., choosing by whatever criteria we want -- such as education, enterprise, technical skills and creativity -- we admit the tiniest fraction of the best and brightest and permit millions of the unskilled to pour in instead.

Imagine that. We're giving up a golden opportunity to engineer the composition of our society. It's this sort of thinking that attracted many respectable people to eugenics in the early twentieth century. Krauthammer presumably would oppose central planning in other respects. But he's all for centrally planning the migrant component of the U.S. population. It's hard to see how centralized decision-making is bad in most matters but good in this one.

Bad Rights Drive Out Good

The synthetic right of The Country or Citizenry to decide who comes here nullifies the real, natural rights of flesh-and-blood individuals -- those very rights that we believe set us apart from the rest of the world. Judging by the discussion, migrants have no rights to speak of; the Bush administration even demands that the Mexican government block its people from leaving Mexico. Forbidden entry requires forbidden exit. An American whose land borders Mexico apparently isn't entitled to think of that boundary as his border and to invite people from the other side to live or work on his property. Instead, it's our border, with our including people thousands of miles away. Then there's the popular view that if migrants couldn't find jobs here, they wouldn't come. Thus the Lou Dobbses of the country want to imprison employers who have the gall to hire migrants not in possession of tamper-proof government papers. So much for freedom of association and contract. So much for free and private enterprise.

Americans, we apparently are in need of reminding, are not the only people with rights, which are universal and natural, not national. As Robert Higgs says, [T]he Bill of Rights makes no mention of anyone's citizenship status. (FEE has been saying this from the beginning. See The Freedom to Move, 1951, by Oscar W. Cooley and Paul L. Poirot.)

And a country is not a country club. What separates a true liberal from everyone else is his or her belief that freedom is not a luxury for some, to be enjoyed only when they approve of the outcome, but a necessity for individual human flourishing.

Americans' faith in government is at or near historical lows in several Gallup trends. More than 8 in 10 are dissatisfied with the way the nation is being governed, 53% have little or no trust in political officeholders, and 57% lack trust in government to solve domestic problems.

News from The Hill:

GOP to sink its teeth deeper into Solyndra and White House
By Andrew Restuccia

House Republicans have sunk their teeth into the bankruptcy of an Obama administration-backed solar firm, and they made it clear this week that they're not letting go.

Unlike other GOP-led probes of the White House that quickly faded away, Republicans are vowing to intensify their investigation into the California-based Solyndra.
