Subject: |The Superlative World-Wide_Politics| "Fast and Furious" Operation Sherrod Brown United States Senator responds

Dear Mr. House:
Thank you for getting in touch with me regarding Attorney General Eric Holder. I have heard from several Ohioans sharing your concern about Attorney General Holder's role in the "Fast and Furious" Operation.
In response to the growing violence on the United States-Mexico border, the Department of Justice's Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), which is tasked with stopping gun trafficking and the illegal flow of guns into Mexico, established Project Gunrunner in 2006. The goal of Project Gunrunner is to work with domestic and international law enforcement agencies, firearms dealers, and other partners to investigate, disrupt, and dismantle the weapons trafficking network which arms Mexican drug cartels. Since 2006, ATF has indentified more than 2,500 defendants for prosecutions due to the success of Project Gunrunner.
Of the 4,500 active Project Gunrunner investigations taking place across the United States, one investigation in Arizona called "Fast and Furious" has rightfully drawn criticism. This investigation allowed guns to cross the border to allow ATF agents to track Mexican drug cartels. Tragically, one of the guns from the "Fast and Furious" Operation was used to murder Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry.
The Department of Justice and Congress are both conducting investigations of the "Fast and the Furious" Operation and the role of agency heads at both ATF and Justice Department. I will continue to monitor the progress of these investigations. As we learn more about individual's roles in the "Fast and Furious" operations, I will keep your thoughts in mind.
Thank you again for writing to share your concerns.
Sincerely,
Sherrod Brown
United States Senator

Herman Cain -- as phony as a Federal Reserve $3 dollar note
Sunday, October 9th, 2011
Murray Sabrin

Herman Cain is on a roll.  Leading in one poll or in second in other polls, the former Godfather's Pizza CEO is now considered a serious contender for the GOP presidential nomination.  His "rags to riches" life is resonating with a portion of the GOP faithful as a quintessential story of overcoming racial animosity to become a successful business executive.

In recent months, Cain's speeches and GOP primary debate sound bites have won over many Tea Partiers to his side who believe he is the real thing, a breath of fresh air in a crowded field of presidential contenders.

The official Tea Party website outlines its three core values: fiscal responsibility, constitutionally limited government and free markets.  Herman Cain asserts that as a former business executive he endorses the Tea Party's mission.

However, on Cain's official website, his bio states that he was a member of the Kansas City Federal Reserve Board of Directors and became its chairman in the 1990s.  Yet, on Cain's 999 Plan page under the header, "This is Herman Cain," there is no mention, nada, zilch, that he was an insider of one of the most exclusive, powerful, unconstitutional, anti- free market institutions in the United States, the Federal Reserve.

In short, Cain is endearing himself to the Tea Party by downplaying his support for the Federal Reserve's anti-free market policies.

The Fed promotes fiscal irresponsibility by buying federal government debt with money it creates out-of-thin air so the Congress can spend more than it takes in, and is responsible for the bubbles that always burst causing so much misery throughout the nation.

The Fed is the reason we are seeing both high unemployment and stagnation today, because when the housing bubble burst four years ago, it began flooding the banking system with new money to prop up the economy and bail out the financial elites who made billions during the boom and got their comeuppance during the bust until the Fed started printing hundreds of billions of new dollars.

Throughout the past two decades, Herman Cain was silent, while Ron Paul was giving speeches warning about the disastrous consequences of inflating the money supply.

In other words, Herman Cain is no Ron Paul, who embodies the Tea Party's mission, and has been promoting fiscal responsibility, constitutionally limited government and free markets for 35 years.

Herman Cain embraces "legal counterfeiting," the Federal Reserve's mission for nearly 100 years. America does not need a president who is a phony populist masquerading as an anti-Washington DC outsider.  Cain's anti-Washington rhetoric is as phony as $3 Federal Reserve note.  He should read, free of charge, Murray Rothbard's classic, The Case Against the Fed.

If Cain embraces Rothbard's comprehensive critique of central banking, he can then endorse Ron Paul, drop out of the race and become a crusader for sound money, free markets, and limited constitutional government. instead of pulling a fast one during his campaign.

Ron Paul Defends Mitt Romney Over Jeffress' Mormon Comments
The State Column | Staff | Saturday, October 08, 2011

In the wake of Texas Governor and GOP candidate Rick Perry's fall from the top of the GOP polls, former Massachusetts Governor and GOP candidate Mitt Romney has reclaimed his title of GOP frontrunner. In fact, Romney earned first place with 23 percent of the votes in a recent Fox News poll. Perry slipped to second place with 19 percent of the votes.

While being the frontrunner is great for one's campaign it can also draw a lot of unwanted criticism from other candidates or public figures. This was the case when Robert Jeffress, a pastor at First Baptist Church in Dallas, criticized Romney for his Mormon background. As quoted in Fox News, Jeffress referred to Mormonism as a "cult" when speaking with reporters at the Values Voters Summit on Friday. Jeffress introduced Perry at the event.

Texas Congressman and GOP candidate Ron Paul came to Romney's defense over Jeffress' comments about Mormonism. Speaking to Fox News, Paul argued that Jeffress' remark was "unnecessary." Paul went one step further and argued that negative campaigning shouldn't be the focus of the GOP race. "This whole idea that the most important thing between two candidates right now is the definition of cult, trying to make it sound negative for one person to get the edge over the other -- and they are encouraged by others to keep this thing going," Paul professed.

Paul also suggested that whether Mormonism is a "cult" or not isn't the issue that voters care about in the GOP race. "I think liberty is the issue of the day. Our Constitution is the issue of the day. And too much government -- that is the issue of the day. It's not the definition of a cult."

The latest IBOPE Zogby interactive poll of likely Republican primary voters should concern Romney and Perry more than the definition of a "cult." According to the Zogby poll, pizza magnate and GOP candidate Herman Cain leads the GOP field with 38 percent of the votes. Romney, his closest competitor, is 20 percentage points behind Cain.
