New oil reserves pose threat to OPEC dominance

While the world remained focused on Tahrir Square — another revolution of its kind has been in the making — impacting, changing and altering the global energy dynamics.

The issue of global energy security seems changing nexus now, resulting in uncertain call on Saudi and OPEC oil in medium term. Large new, conventional and unconventional reserves in North America, and elsewhere, are questioning the dominant role of OPEC in meeting the global oil thirst. These new developments have also sapped the urgency to develop the Kingdom's own reserves — further — at this stage.

The transition has been in air for some time now — yet it has just been officially conceded — from the top. "The abundance of resources and the more 'balanced' geographical distribution of unconventionals have reduced the much-hyped concerns over 'energy security' which once served as the undercurrent driving energy policies and dominated the global energy debate," Khalid Al-Falih, the Aramco CEO, said last week at the Energy Dialogue organized by the King Abdullah Petroleum Studies and Research Center.

With Riyadh's supply cushion as the last defense against prices spiraling and getting out of hand, oil markets for years had kept a nervous eye on happenings in Saudi Arabia, getting edgy at the slightest pretext. "A few years ago, much of the global energy debate was based on the premise of acute resource scarcity and its economic and political ramifications," Falih too underlined.

However, things appear radically changed today. "Rather than supply scarcity, oil supplies remain at comfortable levels, even given rising demand from fast-growing nations," he added.

Consequently, the pressure on Riyadh to raise its output capacity had substantially reduced. "There was pressure on the kingdom and Saudi Aramco to raise production (capacity). That pressure, I think, has been substantially reduced," Al-Falih said, admitting the debate on energy policy had been "turned upside down" recently by growing oil and natural gas supplies. In fact added with weak US economic data, mounting euro zone sovereign debt and concern about the exposure of major banks to it raised "the specter of a double-dip global recession," he added.

And all this makes the demand security, so very essential for major investment in the sector, still more missing.  "All that makes spending on aggressive energy programs unlikely," Al-Falih said, adding that abundant affordable hydrocarbon supplies challenged investment in renewable technologies.

As a result, Saudi Aramco had no plans to increase its oil production capacity to 15 million bpd. "Saudi Aramco has more spare capacity than the Kingdom is obligated to or has committed to," he told reporters. "So it wouldn't make sense." In October too, Al-Falih had said that in view of altered circumstances, there was no need and reason for Aramco to significantly increase its oil production capacity in the mid-term.

Both conventional and conventional, new, resources have contributed to this altered scenario. Unconventional oil developments are dominated by oil sands in the United States and Canada with 2011 global production amounting to 2.3 million bpd or equivalent to production of non-OPEC member Norway. And in the meantime, rising conventional output from Brazil and Iraq are also contributing significantly to the emerging global energy landscape.

Tight oil is a form of light crude oil held in shale deep below the earth's surface that is extracted with hydraulic fracturing, or "fracking," using deep horizontal wells. OPEC expects global output of this non-conventional oil to rise 3.4 million bpd by 2015, still dominated by oil sands, to 5.8 million bpd by 2025 and to 8.4 million bpd by 2035 when tight oil would be playing a much bigger role.

In 2035, OPEC expects the United States and Canada to still be dominating unconventional oil production with 6.6 million bpd, but China could be producing 1.1 million bpd of its own unconventional oil by then.

OPEC estimated in a recent report that global reserves of tight oil could be as high as 300 billion barrels, well above current estimates of Saudi Arabia's conventional reserves of around 265 billion barrels.

And shale gas too is supplementing the emerging picture. A technology-led surge in North American shale gas production has created a global gas glut over the last few years, reducing the US reliance on Middle Eastern gas imports, forcing exporters to look for new buyers and cut their revenues. Already the sparing natural gas production in the US has cut the share of oil consumption met by imports to 47 percent last year from 60 percent in 2005.

All this also carries immense connotations in geopolitical terms. It could change many equations. The US shale gas boom has virtually eliminated the need for US liquefied natural gas imports for at least two decades. And interestingly it has reduced Russia's influence over the European natural gas market and diminished the petro-power of gas producers in the Middle East. According to a study by Rice University's Baker Institute, "Shale Gas and US National Security," US shale gas has substantially reduced Russia's market share in Europe from 27 percent in 2009 to 13 percent by 2040, reducing the chances that Moscow can use energy as a tool for political gain.

Canada is one of the kingpins of this new resource wave in North America. The chairman of the Canadian Society for Unconventional Resources (CSUR) Dan Allan admits unconventional oil and gas are to have a major impact on the global scenario, "I don't see any indication that the train is going to stop. Unconventional will become conventional and it will be the dominant force for the foreseeable future."

Conceding the trend, even IEA, the OECD energy watchdog has downgraded its call estimates on Saudi and the OPEC oil. Earlier this month, the OECD energy watchdog in World Energy Outlook , it underlined that the kingdom would need to produce (only) 12.6m bpd by 2030, compared with an estimate for the same year of 18m bpd in 2005.

The agency now underlines that Iraq would be the biggest contributor to global oil supply growth between 2010 and 2035, adding more than 5m bpd. Saudi Arabia would still be the second largest contributor, but closely followed by global biofuel production, and oil supplies from Brazil, Canada and Kazakhstan (and indeed some others).

Good, old, uncle Cheney, the former US Vice president once said: "The problem is that the Good Lord didn't see fit to put oil and gas reserves in places where there are more democratic governments."

His prayers seem to have been answered — finally!

OBAMA REPLACES CHRISTIAN

HOLIDAYS WITH MUSLIM ONES

Obama's War on Christianity Continues

By Tammy Bruce, Radio Talk Show Host     November 10, 2011

Usually around Christmas time we can count on a variety of stories

where bizarre leftist worshipping of political correctness imposes itself

on civilization with obsessive efforts to eradicate the word "Christmas"

itself, and public displays of faith.

You know the drill: it's "Holiday Trees" and " Holiday Season", or

"Winter Celebration".  The left is thrilled we are a nation right now

where Occupy Wall Street 's nihilistic thugs command the public square,

while the nativity scene and baby Jesus remain banned as "offensive" to

one miserable group or another.

This, of course, has nothing to do with fairness, and everything to

do with the atheistic and narcissistic left trying to impose its

hopeless, godless view of the world on everyone else.

It's one thing for the usual liberal Gestapos or the odd atheist to

pull that craven cart through society, but now even more disturbingly it

appears President Barack Obama himself isn't even remotely trying to hide

his contempt for Christianity and its importance to our great nation.

Just a few days ago, Obama and the White House went out of its way to

issue a special proclamation for Eid al-Adha, the Muslim "festival of

sacrifice".

In an official White House statement, the president and first lady

gushed about Eid and congratulated Muslims involved in the Hajj

"pilgrimage".

All of that is well and good, but what struck me about this special

message was the reminder that this very same president deliberately

ignored Easter this year, the most holy of Christian holidays, by

snubbing Christians here and around the world.

In April there was disbelief that the White House issued no

proclamation about Easter, let alone a personal statement by the

president and his wife.

By comparison, the White House has released statements recognizing

the observance of major Muslim holidays and released statements in 2010

on Ramadan, Eid-ul-Fitr, Hajj, and Eid-ul-Adha.  On top of neglecting

Easter, the president also failed to release a statement marking Good

Friday.  The White House did, however, release an eight-paragraph

statement heralding Earth Day, which fell on Good Friday.

Most of us recognized a problem with a man whose spiritual leader and

father figure ran a church where pleading to God to "damn" America was

standard, but it now seems Obama's contempt for this nation is personal

and isn't even something he bothers to mask.

In addition to gestures by this president indicating a personal

contempt for the Christian foundation of this country, in the past 72

hours Americans were dumbfounded by the announcement of a "Christmas Tree

Tax" by Obama's Department of Agriculture.  Only after significant

outrage was directed at the president and federal government for such an

astounding proposal, was a "delay" in the implementation of the tax

announced.

Really, imagine if the federal government even contemplated, let

alone announced, a tax on Muslim prayer rugs.  For some reason, however,

taxing a popular symbol of Christianity used during a significant holiday

was thought to be perfectly fine by this administration.

Oh sure, the Fed is saying it was a marketing fee for the Christmas

tree "industry", to supposedly improve the image of the apparently much

hated and dreaded tree.  The fact is it was a tax meant to fund a board

appointed by a federal agency targeting one religion and one religion

only -- Christianity.

There is a precedent for this.  In the Muslim world it's called the

"Jizya", a tax levied on non-Muslim citizens in the Islamic world,

allowing them to practice their religion while being "protected" by the

Muslim state.

In our case, it seems more like an atheistic federal government

looking for tribute by those pesky Christians who dare to think there is

a higher authority than the permanent political class.

While I believe our main problem is the fact that our president is

simply narcissistic with a chip on his shoulder, I also believe his

narcissism keeps him from being able to embrace faith of any sort,

contributing to the mess of a president that he is.  You see, when

everything revolves around you or is about you, that leaves no room for

anything higher and beyond yourself.

Obama's pandering to Muslims is just that, pandering, while his

rather apparent hostility toward Christianity, Israel , and Jews is a

natural reaction for anyone who has contempt for the United States in

general.

We can point to a multitude of mistakes and incompetence, overall

corruption of our political class, and downright criminality when it

comes to the reasons why our nation is in such dire straits right now,

economically and culturally.

But all of that actually comes down to one simple issue -- whether or

not the politicians we entrust with this nation genuinely believe in a

power higher than themselves, believe there are repercussions to their

actions, and that as Americans our rights are given to us by God, not by

politicians.

The Founding Fathers understood this and created a nation rooted in

that divine principle.  The American left and Obama, their community

organizer-in-chief, are determined to chip away at that fundamental

value.  It's up to us to not let that happen.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The First Amendment guarantees no restriction on religion by stating:

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or

prohibiting the free exercize thereof, or abridging the freedom of

speech, or of the press, or the right of the people peacefully to

assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

The Senate voted yes on the National Defense Authorization Act

Obama's Dictatorship is almost complete

This is a critical step over the 'stuck on stupid' line to the traitorous and treasonous line by our Senate this week.  They voted for our Military to detain American citizens as long as they want to,  without charges,  representation or trial……just because they are suspected of being a terrorist.  Americans could be gathered up and placed at GITMO for a 'mystery' terrorist reason decided by the military front and directed by Obama or any other power hungry President.  It is all kosher and approved by the Senate and President now.  Naturally,  Obama is threatening a veto,  of course that hits the airwaves to soften this traitorous ruling against the American people.

This betrayal by the Senate only gives a US citizen just one hearing by the military where they can then be locked up for life without charge.  How is that anything like America, our Constitution or freedom as we know it?

If a person is a real suspect or potential terrorist, authorities need to have some evidence, probable cause and then charges,  not just a vague accusation, one hearing then throw them into a dungeon and toss the key into the ocean.

Perhaps, the way we are going we should study the Government structure of former Communist Russia and see if we might find some improvements for our collapsing system.  If not that, maybe we should all form some 'American Camp' unions so we could have representation as to how our internment rooms might look at the various camps we are assigned to.  Can we wear certain colors in our uniforms,  have special meals and visit our dogs on the weekends?  Can I have bug spray for my bunk…assuming I have one?

Obama can't on the surface dare act like he would want such a ruling as voted in by the Senate, but that is exactly what he has planned for and wants.  For a short while he must be the good cop and the Senate must be the bad cop for his controlling scheme.

He has been developing camps, and circling the control wagons by establishing things like the counsel of Governors.  Obama developed his congress evading czars, giving him dozens of unconstitutional arms flowing and showering controls where ever he wanted and completely bypassing congress.

Regarding the definition of 'terrorism'

Obama and Bush before him started ripping the words 'Islamic terrorist'  from our mouths.  That was rude and CAIR and other Muslim radical groups of 'representation' were most angry about us attaching Islam to the war on terror.  This was even though 99.9% of all the torture, threats and murders were being done by Muslims.  We were Islamaphobic for noticing that.  Oh Duck!  There are more body parts of infidels flying by.  Oh….don't worry,  it was just another Jew and Christian torn to shreds.  Who cares.

It wasn't long after Obama got into office that this war against Islamic radicals and fundamentalists was now called an 'overseas contingency' operation.  Does anyone know on God's green earth what that is???

Our House,  Senate and White House has now morphed into a 3 headed, Marxist, monster,  mostly unrecognizable to America,  our Constitution and Judeo-Christian values.

FEMA Camps via executive order

Perhaps this sounds 'tin helmet' to you,  but don't you find it interesting and even a bit frightening that President Obama put forth and Executive Order to create all kinds of Fema camps.  This has been developing all across the country, naturally hiding behind such usage terms as crisis,  terrorism and calamities.

Let us not forget that it wasn't in another country or even that many years ago that we had 10 internment camps in our own country.  All Japanese Americans were forced to live there between 1942-1945.  This was a shameful disregard of their rights as Americans.

Back in August 2002,  Attn. General John Ashcroft said he had a desire for determent camps for U.S. citizens seen as 'enemy combatants.'  Even Bill Clinton doesn't deny that there are 'camps' in our country and foreign soldiers here.

Now,  we almost have complete the other part of the hammer,  US military, under order of this President who can grab up American citizens now,  like me,  like you,  like anyone viewed as a potential terrorist,  and take them away, perhaps never to be seen again.

Controllers and anti Constitutionalist are everywhere,  on the left and right

Those through out our brief history who want power and control outside of the restraining and moral walls of our Constitution,  Judeo/Christian values and freedom,  drift quickly towards totalitarianism,  tyranny,  land,  food, business and health controls.  Citizens can be seized at will for no real reason but just as a terrorist threat, defined as Obama wants to define it.

Is this 'terrorism threat speech' challenging Obama and the left?  Is it exposing the corruption of Obama?  Is it debating with or challenging bills in the House and Senate?  Is it confronting the evils and danger of Sharia law and Islam unchecked?

I'm not for a violent uprising or any criminal behavior, but it is time for our patriotic and Constitutional revolution to start screaming.  Let us get our country back in the right manner and peacefully.  Oh yeah…..I'm glad millions upon millions of us have our loaded guns at home.  Just a little thought for those who may want to turn on their own in the middle of the night.

HEAVEN AND HELL
While walking down the street one day a Corrupt Senator was tragically hit by a car and died.

His soul arrives in heaven and is met by St. Peter at the entrance.

"Welcome to heaven," says St. Peter. "Before you settle in, it seems there is a problem. We seldom see a high official around these parts, you see, so we're not sure what to do with you."

"No problem, just let me in," says the Senator.

"Well, I'd like to, but I have orders from the higher ups. What we'll do is have you spend one day in hell and one in heaven. Then you can choose where to spend eternity."

"Really?, I've made up my mind. I want to be in heaven," says the Senator.

"I'm sorry, but we have our rules."

And with that, St. Peter escorts him to the elevator and he goes down, down, down to hell.

The doors open and he finds himself in the middle of a green golf course. In the distance is a clubhouse and standing in front of it are all his friends and other politicians who had worked with him.

Everyone is very happy and in evening dress. They run to greet him, shake his hand, and reminisce about the good times they had while getting rich at the expense of the people.
They played a friendly game of golf and then dine on lobster, caviar and the finest champagne.

Also present is the devil, who really is a very friendly guy who is having a good time dancing and telling jokes.

They are all having such a good time that before the Senator realizes it, it is time to go.

Everyone gives him a hearty farewell and waves while the elevator rises.

The elevator goes up, up, up and the door reopens in heaven where St. Peter is waiting for him, "Now it's time to visit heaven..."

So, 24 hours passed with the Senator joining a group of contented souls moving from cloud to cloud, playing the harp and singing. They have a good time and, before he realizes it, the 24 hours have gone by and St. Peter returns.

"Well, then, you've spent a day in hell and another in heaven. Now choose your eternity."

The Senator reflects for a minute, then he answers: "Well, I would never have said it before, I mean heaven has been delightful, but I think I would be better off in hell."

So St. Peter escorts him to the elevator and he goes down, down, down to hell...

Now the doors of the elevator open and he's in the middle of a barren land covered with waste and garbage. He sees all his friends, dressed in rags, picking up the trash and putting it in black bags as more trash falls from above

The devil comes over to him and puts his arm around his shoulders.

"I don't understand," stammers the Senator. "Yesterday I was here and there was a golf course and clubhouse, and we ate lobster and caviar, drank champagne, and danced and had a great time. Now there's just a wasteland full of garbage and my friends look miserable. What happened?"

The devil smiles at him and says,

"Yesterday we were campaigning, Today, you voted.."

Nah.  Pigs are nicer, cleaner, smarter, and useful.

New post on Fellowship of the Minds

Occupy LA residents are pigs…

TEA Party rally in WA ST in 2010...

Occupy L.A.: 30 tons of debris left behind at City Hall tent city

OWS pigs in LA...

LA Times: Sanitation officials said Wednesday that they expect to haul away 30 tons of debris from the Occupy L.A. encampment –- everything from clothing to heaps of garbage to oddball curiosities left behind by the protesters who lived at the City Hall tent city for two months.

Andrea Alarcon, president of the city Public Works board, said workers already have removed 25 tons of belongings from the City Hall park, all of it heading straight to a landfill.  The sheer volume of personal belongings left behind after the early morning Los Angeles Police Department raid has astonished city workers: books and CDs, luggage and boom boxes, mattresses and dining chairs, cellphones, electric razors, a small red guitar with its neck snapped –- all surrounded by dozens of collapsed and empty tents.

As workers broke down tents and placed them in trash cans, Ramir Delgado, 25, snapped photos out of curiosity.  "It's a shame how I see all trash around here," he said. He pointed to his head. "People don't understand that the freedom starts here in your mind." Delgado said he was disappointed in Occupy L.A. "You know why this is filthy and not clean is there isn't leadership," he said.

A few feet away, crews in the hazmat suits raked trash of discarded protest signs, nail polish and jars of peanut butter.  "This looks like pure anarchy," Delgado said, adding, "in a Hollywood way."

And why am I not surprised?...
