"A federal judge in San Francisco says the denial of insurance
benefits to same-sex spouses is discriminatory.
"The ruling Tuesday involves 38-year-old federal court law clerk
Christopher Nathan and 39-year-old Thomas Alexander, who were married
in 2008 when same-sex marriages were legal in California. Voters later
approved Proposition 8, overturning the state Supreme Court ruling
that had legalized same-sex marriages.

"Nathan was turned down when he tried last year to enroll Alexander in
the federal government's health insurance plan. A 1996 law bars
federal recognition of same-sex unions."

An anti-torture memo that the Bush administration has been trying to
hide from public view for years was finally made public, reported
MSNBC's Rachel Maddow (video below) on Wednesday night.

The memo written by then Bush State Department counselor Philip
Zelikow advised the Bush Administration that enhanced interrogation
techniques, such as waterboarding, were torture and illegal.

Wired reporter Spencer Ackerman finally obtained the memo, through a
Freedom on Information Act request that he made three years ago

However, back in 2010, President Bush told NBC's Matt Lauer in 2010
that he authorized the use of enhanced interrogation techniques like
waterboarding because his "lawyer said it was legal, said it did not
fall within the Anti-Torture Act."

But Zelikow's memo warned the Bush Administration in 2006 that the
interrogation techniques used on terror suspects by the CIA were "a
felony war crime."

In 2009, Zelikow said that the Bush Administration attempted to
collect and destroy all copies of the memo.

This is legit. I checked it out myself at https://www.iardc.org Stands for Illinois Attorney Registration And Disciplinary Committee. It's the official arm of lawyer discipline in Illinois; and they are very strict and mean as hell. (Talk about irony.) Even I, at the advanced age of almost 65, maintain (at the cost of approximately $600/year) my law license that I worked so hard and long to earn.

1. President Barack Obama, former editor of the Harvard Law Review, is no longer a "lawyer". He surrendered his license back in 2008 in order to escape charges he lied on his bar application.

A "Voluntary Surrender" is not something where you decide "Gee, a license is not really something I need anymore, is it?" and forget to renew your license. No, a "Voluntary Surrender" is something you do when you've been accused of something, and you 'voluntarily surrender" your license five seconds before the state suspends you.

2 Michelle Obama "voluntarily surrendered" her law license in 1993.

3. So, we have the first black President and First Lady - who don't actually have licenses to practice law. Facts.

11. And this is the same guy who lectured the Supreme Court moments later in the same speech?

When you are a phony it's hard to keep facts straight.

A Congress of used car salesmen

New post on Fellowship of the Minds A Congress of used car salesmen by Dr. Eowyn The latest Gallup poll on how Americans rate the honesty and ethics of various professional groups, has members of Congress at the very bottom -- on a par with used car salesmen. Ouch! A Gallup Poll in December 2011 found that 64% of Americans rate the honesty and ethical standards of members of Congress as "low" or "very low," tying the record "low"/"very low" rating Gallup has measured for any profession historically. Of the 21 professions tested, Americans rate the honesty and ethical standards of 3 medical professions -- nurses, pharmacists, and doctors -- the highest. At the other end of the spectrum, Americans give the least positive honesty and ethics ratings to members of Congress, lobbyists, car salespeople, and telemarketers. I'm surprised by the rating given journalists, considering the despicable way some of them behaved in reporting the Trayvon Martin shooting.
