Guess which industry is booming?

by DCG

Smith & Wesson booms as firearms owners fear prez crackdown

Boston Herald: Gun sales are booming as buyers arm themselves, partly because they fear President Obama will win re-election this fall and pass tough new gun-control laws, analysts say.

"I would characterize this as a gun-buying frenzy," Jim Barrett of CL King & Associates said yesterday after Springfield-based Smith & Wesson's reported blowout quarterly sales.

Smith & Wesson said preliminary net sales from continuing operations rose 28 percent to $129 million during the latest quarter. The gun maker also reported a $439 million backlog of orders — a $252 million increase from a year earlier.

Weapons manufacturers across the industry are logging similar numbers.  Remington's parent company recently reported a 34 percent quarterly sales gain, while Connecticut-based Sturm, Ruger & Co. saw transactions soar nearly 50 percent. Sturm, Ruger even stopped taking orders for two months to catch up on back orders.

All told, background checks for new gun purchases — the best gauge of overall U.S. weapons sales — rose 14.4 percent in 2011 to 10.8 million, according to the National Shooting Sports Foundation.  "There's no one reason that explains all of the increase, but what's been called 'The Obama Factor' undoubtedly is an important part of it," said Lawrence Keane, a senior vice president at the foundation.

He attributes some of the increase to a range of non-political factors, from more women purchasers to two recent U.S. Supreme Court cases favoring gun-buyer rights.  But Keane added that sales took off shortly before Obama's 2008 election and stayed high throughout his first year in office as gun-rights supporters fretted over the Democrat's plans.  "Whenever people perceive the possibility of laws or regulations that will restrict their (weapons-purchasing) rights, they tend to buy guns," Keane said.

Analyst Reed Anderson of Northland Securities believes some of today's sales come from people who first bought guns because of Obama's election, then discovered they liked sport shooting.  "When Obama won in 2008, that really primed the pump for a lot of demand from first-time buyers," he said. "What we're seeing now is repeat customers."

The National Rifle Association thinks buyers are just acting logically.  "President Obama has demonstrated a lifetime of support for anti-gun legislation, so there's a lot to fear about what will happen if he gets a second term," NRA spokeswoman Stephanie Samford said.

Even gun-control activist John Rosenthal of Hub-based Stop Handgun Violence concedes it's "probably true" that fearful gun buyers are pushing sales higher. But he thinks gun-rights groups are playing on such concerns for political reasons. "Nothing 'sells' better than fear of gun confiscation," Rosenthal said.

Skippy, good for only one economy.  And hopefully gone after one term.

The folks who are getting the free stuff don't like the folks who are paying for the free stuff, because the folks who are paying for the free stuff can no longer afford
to pay for both the free stuff and their own stuff.

And, the folks who are paying for the free stuff want the free stuff to stop.

And the folks who are getting the free stuff want even more free stuff
on top of the free stuff they are already getting!

Now... the people who are forcing the people who pay for the free stuff
have told the people who are RECEIVING the free stuff that the people
who are PAYING for the free stuff are being mean, prejudiced, and racist.

So... the people who are GETTING the free stuff have been convinced they
need to hate the people who are paying for the free stuff by the people
who are forcing some people to pay for their free stuff and giving them
the free stuff in the first place.

We have let the free stuff giving go on for so long that there are now
more people getting free stuff than paying for the free stuff.

Now understand this.   All great democracies have committed financial
suicide somewhere between 200 and 250 years after being founded.   The
reason?

The voters figured out they could vote themselves money from the
treasury by electing people who promised to give them money from the
treasury in exchange for electing them.

The United States officially became a Republic in 1776, 236 years ago.
The number of people now getting free stuff outnumbers the people paying
for the free stuff.   We have one chance to change that in 2012. Failure
to change that spells the end of the United States as we know it.

 ELECTION 2012 IS COMING.

A Nation of Sheep Breeds a Government of Wolves!

I'M 100% for PASSING THIS ON !!!

Obama challenged in Arkansas primary

By Chris Cillizza and Aaron Blake, Published: May 22

President Obama won his 34th and 35th consecutive Democratic primary contests on Tuesday night, claiming victories in Arkansas and Kentucky.

But his margin was surprisingly small in Arkansas — a state in which he was opposed by Tennessee lawyer John Wolfe, who had previously been on the presidential primary ballot in Louisiana, Missouri and New Hampshire and will be on the ballot in Texas next week. Wolfe has also run unsuccessfully for Congress four times.

With 61 percent of precincts reporting in Arkansas, Obama took 60 percent to 40 percent for Wolfe. In Kentucky, with nearly all precincts reporting, 42.1 percent of Democratic primary voters opted for "uncommitted" rather than backing the president, who received 57.9 percent.

Those results come two weeks to the day after Keith Judd, a convicted felon incarcerated in Texas, won 41 percent of the vote against Obama in the West Virginia primary.

Although the results haven't stopped Obama's march to renomination — he officially clinched the Democratic nod on April 3 — they remain an indicator of not-insignificant pockets of unrest within his party.

That phenomenon isn't limited to the 2012 election.

In 2008, Obama underperformed the showing of Sen. John F. Kerry (Mass.) in the 2004 election in places such as Arkansas and West Virginia, even as he was sweeping to a major national victory.

One easy explanation — and the one regularly espoused by some Democrats — for Obama's struggles in Appalachia and portions of the South is simply that some white voters will not vote for an African American for president.

But although no one doubts that race may be a factor, exit polling suggests that the opposition to Obama goes beyond it.

And seasoned political observers who have studied the politics of these areas say race may be less of a problem for Obama than the broader cultural disconnect that many of these voters feel with the Democratic Party.

"Race is definitely a factor for some Texans but not the majority," said former congressman Charles W. Stenholm (D-Tex.). "The most significant factor is the perception/reality that the Obama administration has leaned toward the ultra-left viewpoint on almost all issues."

In Appalachia, many people are angry at the Environmental Protection Agency's approach to mining, arguing that the Obama administration has made it more difficult for people in coal country to make ends meet.

In 2004, Kerry took 38 percent of the vote among white, non-college-educated people — shorthand for the blue-collar voters who were once a core part of the Democratic constituency but have faded away considerably over the past 30 years.

Among that same group in 2008, Obama took 40 percent of the vote, not a statistically significant difference from Kerry. Bill Clinton, a son of the South and someone far more culturally aligned with blue-collar voters, carried non-college-educated voters by a single point in 1992 and 1996.

"In states like West Virginia and Oklahoma, it's just that voters are down on national Democrats generally, and I don't believe it is due to race," noted former congressman Martin Frost (D-Tex.).

Regardless of the reasoning, it's clear that there is a bloc of Democratic voters in every state who want to register their opposition to Obama.

In the 16 states in which voters were given an alternative to Obama on the Democratic primary ballot — whether it be an actual candidate, a write-in or simply "uncommitted" — Obama averaged 84.6 percent of the vote.

In the five states where there was a named opponent, though, Obama's share of the vote was 72.7 percent.

Although the vast majority of those states are like Arkansas and Kentucky in that no one expects them to be genuinely competitive in the November election between Obama and presumptive Republican nominee Mitt Romney, notable exceptions exist.

In a non-competitive Democratic primary in the swing state of New Hampshire in January, a smattering of candidates took 18 percent of the Democratic vote, including 10 percent who chose to write in a candidate rather than back Obama.

Similarly, this month in North Carolina, which will host the Democratic National Convention this summer and is considered a tossup state, more than 20 percent of Democratic primary voters chose the "uncommitted" option over Obama.

Considering that he won North Carolina in the 2008 election by 0.4 percent over Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) — a 49.9 percent to 49.5 percent squeaker — even a minor abandonment of Obama by self-identified Democrats could make a difference this time around.

Replace or Repeal?
Posted by Laurence Vance on May 23, 2012 05:05 PM

I heard a Romney ad played on NPR today that said he was going to "replace" Obamacare, not "repeal" Obamacare. There is a big difference. If Republicans take total control of the government after the November elections, nothing short of the complete repeal of Obamacare is acceptable. Not replacing it with Romneycare or Republicare. And while they are at it, they can repeal Bushcare as well. I would not hold my breath for the repeal of either one.

There goes the neighborhood: Filthy Islamic Halal food carts in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn

by barenakedislam

HALAL SLOP

What was once a beautiful, mostly Italian neighborhood in Brooklyn, is going downhill fast with the influx of Muslim halal food venders, stinking up the streets with their foul-smelling food.

who-are-the-filthiest-street-food-vendors-in-new-york-city

CBS  It's a case of street vendor vs. local businesses in Brooklyn. A turf war is brewing in Bay Ridge, where some local brick and mortar stores are saying one cart is causing trouble.

SAMMY KASSEN, VENDOR OF INHUMANELY & PAINFULLY SLAUGHTERED, ISLAMIC-BLESSED HALAL MEAT

Sammy Kassen, who manages the food cart, says he feels like he has been treated like an "animal" by some local business owners, who want him and his cart out of the neighborhood. (Oh, Boo Hoo!)

The corner of 86th Street and 5th Avenue becomes a popular place to grab something quick to eat at lunch time. The halal food cart at the location has been on the same corner for the past three years, but in the past three months, some local businesses have been vocal about getting the cart to leave.

They're kind of taking away from all the local businesses — Burger King, McDonald's, the pizzeria, the Pork Store, everyone," Tony Gentile, owner of the Lone Star Bar, told CBS 2′s John Schriffen.

Gentile's establishment is down the block from the cart and he said it is ruining the neighborhood's quality of life. "You can't come down the block half the time because the corner is so crowded. There's filth all over the floors," he said.

The manager of the cart disagrees and claims he's the one being harassed when the local businesses call the city to have his permits checked. "I feel like an animal. I feel like I'm not being respected like a human being. I'm a tax-paying business like anybody else. I'm a good citizen," manager Sammy Kassen said.

Kassen is now fighting back. His lawyer sent a cease and desist letter to the owner of the the Lone Star Bar for allegedly making false claims. He is also asking for support from the community and has posted a sign asking all fans to join the cart's Facebook page.

Kassen, who insists his permits are up to date and that he's allowed to stay on the block, said he has no plans on leaving and hopes everyone can learn to get along.

Legislation In New York To Ban Anonymous Speech Online

"Republican Assemblyman Jim Conte said, '[this] turns the spotlight on cyberbullies by forcing them to reveal their identity.' Republican Senator Thomas O'Mara added, '[this will] help lend some accountability to the Internet age.' The two are sponsoring a bill that would ban any New York-based websites from allowing comments (or well, anything) to be posted unless the person posting it attaches their name to it. But the bill also goes further, saying New York-based websites, such as blogs and newspapers, must 'remove any comments posted on his or her website by an anonymous poster unless such anonymous poster agrees to attach his or her name to the post.'"

San Fran Board consults Ouija board in naming ship

by DCG

SF Gate:  The San Francisco Board of Supervisors backs the idea of the Navy naming a vessel after gay political leader Harvey Milk. But the decision came only after debating the power of symbolism and consulting with a spirit evil board.

The nonbinding resolution, approved on a 9-2 vote, urges the secretary of the Navy to christen a ship the USS Harvey Milk. It supports the request of San Diego Rep. Bob Filner, the ranking Democrat on the House Armed Services Committee.

Milk, one of the first openly gay officeholders in the nation, was serving on the San Francisco Board of Supervisors when he was gunned down in 1978 by his former colleague Dan White.  Milk was a naval officer who served during the Korean War.  Tuesday's vote came on what would have been Milk's 82nd birthday.

"LGBT people have always served in our armed forces," said Supervisor Scott Wiener, who sponsored the resolution. "For many, many years, our community was hidden and oppressed in the armed services.  "Now, because of the repeal of 'don't ask, don't tell,' our community can serve openly and proudly," he added. "We must support our LGBT soldiers past and present. I can think of no better way to do that than to name a vessel for a Navy officer who went on to become one of the most important civil rights leaders in history."

But Supervisor Christina Olague voted against the legislation, not wanting to link Milk to the military. "I just do believe that there are more appropriate ways to honor somebody who in their last days of their life was opposed to war," she said, noting Milk's public opposition to the Vietnam War. "I also have, my entire life, been against the military-industrial complex."

Supervisor John Avalos said he sees the merits of the arguments on both sides of the debate. He and his City Hall aides turned to a Ouija board to ask for Milk's opinion.

We "actually put our hands on the Ouija board and the letters g-o-o-d-r-i-d-d-a-n-c-e-d-a-d-t came out. We asked Harvey, and Harvey gave us these letters: 'Good riddance don't ask, don't tell.' It was quite clear that Harvey Milk would have been opposed to 'don't ask, don't tell.' I can honestly say that's one aspect of this resolution that's really valid."

So instead of relying on their own judgments and critical thinking skills, they use a Ouija board to make decisions?  About what I would expect from a city where they have only 37,796 religious adherents per 100,000 persons.

SHOCK: Obama Is a 'Teabagger'

by Sard

Barack Obama, left, marching in a July 4, 1997, parade in Chicago

A 1997 photograph has been unearthed showing Barack Obama marching in a tea-party-style parade, long before the tax-cutting, patriotic movement began, and despite Obama's apparent disdain for "teabaggers," as he has termed them.

"Yes, that really is Barack Obama wearing a regimental coat and carrying a tricorn hat in his hand," writes John Sexton of Breitbart.com, which is publishing the photo. "And that flag behind him really is a Gadsden flag, with its serpent and its 'Don't Tread On Me' slogan."

Sexton notes, "In 2009, President Barack Obama reportedly called members of the tea party 'teabaggers.' It turns out that our fourth greatest president, first in so many things, may have been the first 'teabagger' himself."

U.S. Government Questioned Obama's Citizenship When He Was 5

May 23, 2012 By Breaking News 6 Comments

inShare3

President Obama's literary agent is not the only one who was confused over the politician's birthplace.

The U.S. government is on record questioning President Obama's citizenship status as early as when he was 5 years old, stating it lacked documentation to determine his citizenship.

The citizenship inquiry dated back to 1966, when Obama's mother, Stanley Ann Dunham, was attempting to secure a waiver so her second husband, Indonesian citizen Lolo Soetoro, could return to the country after his visa had expired.

Dunham separated from her first husband, Barack Obama Sr., in 1963 when the future president was 2 years old. Dunham and Obama Sr. are reported to have divorced in 1964.

In 1965 in Hawaii, Dunham married Soetoro, an Indonesian, and moved to Indonesia in October 1967.

"Some Republicans like Ron Paul's ideas when it comes to issues that are economic, but most haven't completely embraced his views on foreign policy. Despite GOP objections, most of the American people and American troops agree that it is time for the United States to stop policing the world and engaging in nation building missions. Several polls have shown that more than half of the American people agree that it is time for the United States to withdraw from Afghanistan. Further, according to a poll  conducted by CBS, one in three U.S. veterans of the post-9/11 conflicts believe that America's presence overseas and the wars America is currently fighting are no longer worth the cost. This probably explains why Paul receives more campaign contributions from members of our military than Obama or Romney.
"Republicans are beginning to slowly come around to Paul's view of foreign policy."

Ron Paul has already won
Tuesday, May 22, 2012 - Political Potpourri
by Kevin Kelly

WEST CHESTER, Pa., May 22, 2012 The mainstream media continue to discount Ron Paul as a factor in the race for the Republican nomination, even though he and his supporters could become serious contenders when the convention meets in August. Paul continues to rack up delegates in such states as Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri and Colorado.

Strangely, in spite of the success of Paul's strategy in accumulating delegates, many pundits insist that Paul remains a nonfactor. These same pundits continue to claim that electorally Ron Paul cannot win the Republican nomination, and while the media miss the mark by discounting Paul as a contender, they miss the truly "big story" of the 2012 election. That is, that Ron Paul, mobilizing both young and old with his message of liberty tempered by personal responsibility, and government power tempered by accountability, has already won far more than the election.  He has won the trust and the imagination of the people, Rocky Balboa-style.

Consider the issue of the Federal Reserve, where Dr. Paul has been an outspoken critic of the Fed's policies for years. When Paul proposed a bill to audit the Federal Reserve in 1983, he had not a single Republican or Democrat who was willing to co-sponsor the measure. When he reintroduced it in 2011, every Republican and several Democrats in the House signed onto Paul's bill.

Almost every Republican candidate vying for the nomination this year supported a full independent audit of the Federal Reserve, and many demanded that Chairman Bernanke be fired. Texas Governor Rick Perry, when asked about future quantitative easing by the Fed, went further than most Republicans when he said, "If this guy prints more money between now and the election, I dunno what y'all would do to him in Iowa but we would treat him pretty ugly down in Texas. Printing more money to play politics at this particular time in American history is almost treacherous -- or treasonous in my opinion." Paul's views on the Federal Reserve are no longer outside the mainstream. According to a survey published by Bloomberg in 2010, most Americans believe that the Fed should be severely reigned in or altogether abolished. These numbers are probably higher in 2012 considering that Fed policies have not pulled us out recession.

Some Republicans like Ron Paul's ideas when it comes to issues that are economic, but most haven't completely embraced his views on foreign policy.

Republicans are beginning to slowly come around to Paul's view of foreign policy. This was evident when many conservatives stood with the Congressman in opposing the Libyan conflict overseas. In a recent speech, Florida Senator Marco Rubio talked about the growing divide in the Republican Party between interventionists and non-interventionists. He went on to say: "Until very recently, the general perception was that American Conservatism believed in a robust and muscular foreign policy … But when I arrived in the Senate last year I found that some of the traditional sides in the foreign policy debate had shifted. On the one hand, I found liberal Democrats and conservative Republicans working together to advocate our withdrawal from Afghanistan, and staying out of Libya. On the other hand I found myself partnering with Democrats … on a more forceful foreign policy … I recently joked that today, in the US Senate, on foreign policy, if you go far enough to the right, you wind up on the left."

Paul's adherence to Austrian economics is also meeting with greater acceptance in mainstream America. This theory of economics, once unknown and obscure, is now beginning to receive interest and respect. In fact, Austrian economist F.A. Hayek's "The Road to Serfdom" was recently on the bestsellers list. Likewise, we now hear stories of Congresswoman Michelle Bachmann reading Ludwig Von Mises' "Human Action" on the beach and young people all across the nation reading the writings of authors who adhere to the Austrian school, such as Murray Rothbard, F.A. Hayek, Thomas E. Woods, Charles Goyette, and many others.

Every day, more people are coming around to Ron Paul's way of thinking. Paul's message continues to attract and inspire many young people, challenging them to question their government and to change the status quo. These leaders of tomorrow will take the ideas that Paul espouses and inject them into their respective professions, be they academia, politics, business, law, health, or other. This timeline will ensure that Paul's ideals will continue to enter into the mainstream long after Paul's campaign for the presidency ends. Ron Paul may or may not win the Republican nomination, but he has won the battle of ideas. Many are moving in Paul's direction, and that is a victory larger than winning the Republican nomination.

Dear Bruce,

Andrew Breitbart pioneered a new media revolution that transformed journalism and the political landscape, and though he may have left this earth, his work has only just begun. At the Franklin Center for Government & Public Integrity, we have teamed up with the Heritage Foundation to pay tribute to the monumental achievements of Andrew's work, and the recognition of those who continue his legacy by carrying the torch for freedom and truth."

We will be presenting awards in the following areas:

Full-time Reporter: In a media environment that tells reporters to go along to get along, a few still consider it a sacred trust to keep the people informed. A few still recognize the awesome responsibility in belonging to the only profession to be enshrined in the Bill of Rights. We'll present one Breitbart Award to a full-time news reporter to honor courage and honesty in telling the real stories that matter to people's lives.

Blogger: When the legacy media fails to do its job, we are fortunate to have an army waiting on the Internet to hold the institutions of power accountable. We'll honor a blogger for intrepid reporting that goes over the heads of the legacy media to communicate directly to the people.

Citizen: The fight for freedom requires a constant stream of new recruits willing to make time in their lives to serve as watchdogs in their local communities. We'll honor an information activist committed to digging up the truth.

Please take the time to go to BreitbartAwards.com to nominate your favorite reporter, blogger, and citizen journalist. It's important to acknowledge those among us who are doing great work.
